We met Merci Fernandez on our first sourcing trip to Peru last year, where we spent time with the team at Origin Coffee Lab—our trusted export partner in the region. Merci works closely with OCL, while also running her own farm, La Pomarrosa, tucked away in the highlands of Colasay, Jaén.
Spending time with Merci was a highlight. She's generous with her knowledge, deeply connected to her community, and genuinely passionate about her craft. This particular lot—a 100% Bourbon Colasay—is a regional standout, known for its disease resistance and exceptional cup quality.
Merci represents a new generation of Peruvian coffee producers. Her rare dual perspective—as both a grower and someone immersed in the export side of the industry—gives her a unique understanding of the full coffee journey. While it’s still uncommon for producers to taste their own coffee, Merci cups regularly through her work with OCL.
We were so taken by her coffees that we purchased two lots. This Bourbon Colasay is the first to launch, with a second—an exceptionally rare SL9—coming soon.
