Coffee Varietal: Typica
Harvest Year: 2023
Coffee Process: Washed
Our Birds of Oaxaca Series is back and we welcome the return of our favourite producers from Oaxaca, Juana Lopez Jacinto.
Tradition and family values define the very core of this returning producer. Juana has been surrounded by coffee culture all her life. “My parents taught me how to work with coffee since I was in my early 20s, and today it’s a family tradition” -she states proudly.
Finca La Sombra, located in San Pedro El Alto Oaxaca got its name because the coffee shrubs are surrounded by many native trees that allow the coffee to grow organically and in the shade.
This 100% Typica lot from Juana Lopez Jacinto took our fancy with its outstanding flavours of citrus, green tea and freshly cut sugarcane. This year marks our third consecutive year working with Juana, her coffee always impresses, and we look forward to many more of her harvests in the future.
Juana's coffee comes to us through our long-time supply partner, Caravela. Caravela already operates out of several countries in Latin America and launched a concerted effort in Mexico back in 2018 with their PECA program (short for "Grower Education Program'' in Spanish), where Caravela's experienced educators partner up with farmers to help increase their productivity, quality, and profitability, as well as connecting them with roasters like us.
In the cup you'll find delicate notes of citrus, green tea and freshly cut sugarcane.
The Red Warbler, native to the Oaxaca region in Mexico, is a striking bird known for its vibrant crimson plumage and unique appearance. With its bright red body and contrasting black markings, this species is a visual delight for birdwatchers. Found primarily in high-altitude pine and oak forests, the Red Warbler is a testament to the beauty of avian life in the rich biodiversity of the Oaxaca region.
