The majority of coffee in Rwanda can only be traced back to the washing station. Farmers produce small amounts as a cash crop. These are blended together to form larger lots that are processed and sold under the name of the washing station. Anastase's coffee is special, too good to be lost in a blend of other lots, his coffee production is just big enough to be kept separate at the washing station, and to preserve traceability back to him, and his farm.

The area surrounding Ruli —where Minani's coffee is from— has mineral-rich soil and an environment that is well suited to speciality coffee production. Typically, coffee is grown as a cash crop in Rwanda, alongside subsistence food crops like maize, beans and sorghum and generally livestock like goats and chickens.

This is the fifth consecutive year we've worked with Anastase Minani , his coffee is crisp, bright and always highly anticipated.

This month, we will be donating $1 for every 250g sold from our Rwanda Producers Series as part of a campaign Supporting Strong Women; an initiative that is raising funds for the Rambagirakawa Womens Group. As a collective we hope to raise $15000 by June.

Supporting Strong Women

Through "Supporting Strong Women" the Australian coffee community aims to raise $15,000 by June 2024 to construct a day care centre for the women of Rambagirakawa and the wider coffee producing community. Accomplishing this long-held goal will directly impact the women's productivity and prosperity, while ensuring their children are cared for in a safe , happy and nurturing environment, surrounded by their community and with their mums, aunties and grandmothers close by.

Led by our trusted coffee partners and long time #meccamates, Melbourne Coffee Merchants, Mecca Coffee will be donating $1 per 250g sold through our Rwandan Producer's Series. We will be showcasing four amazing producers starting from late February until June.
