This lot by Luiz Carlos Louback is 100% Catuai, produced on his farm in Caparao in the state of Minas Gerais. 2024 is our first year purchasing coffee from Luiz Louback.
He is the third generation of farmers to come out of the Louback family. It was his grandfather, who pioneered coffee production in the region back in the early 60s. Their coffee is a product of generations of learning, love, and care in coffee production. Every bean shows the family's focus on high-quality, sustainable farming. Luiz continues the tradition and uses innovative new methods to improve the taste of the coffee.
Back in 2023, the team first tasted Luiz’s coffee on a sourcing trip in Mococa, Sao Paulo. At the heart of the trip was a table full of the best specialty coffee from different states. It was put in front of us by our long-standing friend and export partner Felipe Croce from FAF Coffee. Each coffee was proof of the farmers' hard work, with every bean carrying the uniqueness of their respective areas but it was Luiz's coffee—clean yet complex— being the most impressive, standing out from the rest.
