Some producers make a single great coffee. Merci Fernández makes a body of work. We met her for the first time in 2024 on our first visit to Peru; what struck us wasn't just the quality of what she was growing, but the clarity of why she was growing it.
At La Pomarrosa in the Colasay region of Jaén,
Merci combines a family legacy in coffee with her own agricultural training to produce organic lots of rare precision. This Bourbon is one of coffee's most beloved heritage varietals and is the first of two coffees we're bringing back from her farm this year. It arrives exactly as you'd hope: bright, juicy, and immediately expressive.
Starfruit and caramel, with a warmth that lingers.
When asked what coffee means to her, Merci simply said: "Coffee is a world full of opportunities and constant innovation." This cup is a very good place to start.
