This is the third year in a row we’ve purchased Anastase Minani’s coffee. Minani has worked with coffee for over 40 years, he is a founding member of the Dukunde Kawa cooperative and one of their largest producing members with 2,800 trees planted on his farm in Gakenke District, Ruli Sector. Cooperative members at Dukunde are paid a fixed rate at the beginning of the harvest, followed up by a second payment based on the profits secured from lots sold for higher than expected prices. Additionally, the cooperative provides an agronomist, fertilisers & organic pesticides with a ‘model farm’, for demonstrating the best coffee farming practices. Typically, coffee in Rwanda is processed at a centralised ‘wet mill’ where each farmer’s cherry delivery is blended with other day lots. This particular lot from Anastase Minani however, has been processed separately giving us full traceability and someone to thank for this delicious and nuanced coffee.
